BoardShift

Effective Leadership for Modern Governance

The Laurier Institution partnered with Toronto Metropolitan University to bring a national program called DiverseCity onBoard to the Metro Vancouver area. The program was developed in the Greater Toronto Area in 2008 by the Maytree Foundation and operated out of Toronto Metropolitan University’s G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education.

DiverseCity onBoard was a program that connected qualified, pre-screened candidates to volunteer board positions. It provided self-paced, affordable quality online governance training to all individuals and all sectors, supplemented by in-person and online webinars and events. The connections were made through a searchable database that matched qualified diverse individuals with board opportunities. The Laurier gratefully acknowledges the work of Bill Walters, along with his research collaborator, SFU Prof. June Francis, to advance this program during our 3-year partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University.

This work was supported by Mitacs through the Mitacs Accelerate Program, The Laurier Institution, and the Institute for Diaspora Research and Engagement at Simon Fraser University, in collaboration with The Social Planning and Research Council (SPARC BC).
