Aref Amanat

Aref works with individuals and organizations seeking innovative solutions to promote unity, justice and prosperity. With a background in law, international business and public policy, Aref helps resolve challenging and complex problems, particularly those with an international dimension.

Aref was raised in Vancouver and left to attend university in Montreal and work abroad.  After graduating from McGill University’s Faculty of Law, Aref embarked on a series of professional experiences, among them clerking for the Supreme Court of Canada, teaching law at Columbia Law School in New York, and working for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.  Moving into commercial practice, Aref worked as a corporate lawyer at a New York law firm and later as General Counsel of a Fortune 500 multi-national company in Shanghai, China.  He returned to Vancouver in 2018 and now brings his varied and international experience to serve a variety of clients including impact investment funds, First Nations governments and charitable organizations.

Aref is a member of the bars of New York and British Columbia and speaks Persian, Mandarin and French.
