Niloufar Ahmadzadeh has a background in Cultural anthropology and is a journalist with work experience in Canada, Peru, Mexico, India, and the UK. She was raised in Iran, India and Canada; and has lived and worked in several countries. Her interests and work focus on the ethics of reporting conflicts, rights of Indigenous Peoples, human rights violations, media concentration, and gender-based violence.
She was Managing Editor on publications dealing with memory & political violence in Peru which was – apart from Peru’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission – one of the largest projects of the time addressing the hardest hit areas in Huancavelica and the recollection of its memory by its victims. These works included texts in Spanish, translations into Quechua and a radio dramatization of its major works also in Quechua. She has also been a researcher for an investigative book in Mexico on the Mara Salvatrucha ‘MS-13’ gang. Her work has often overlapped with media related NGO’s in several countries. She has undertaken studies in Peace journalism, and dialogue and peacebuilding have long been areas of keen interest and commitment.
Niloufar has a combined Honours BA in Anthropology with a minor in Religious Studies from McMaster University, has undertaken graduate studies in Anthropology at McGill University; and holds a Master of International Journalism from Cardiff University. She speaks English, Spanish and Persian.
